Raising copyright awareness through creative writing

Creative writing competition

The Author's Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS) came to us with an idea to raise copyright awareness amongst school children. In the modern digital age, the concept of copyright is difficult for children to grasp, so the challenge was to find an engaging and entertaining way to do so.

Together we came up the idea of a writing competition - Choose a classic fairytale and write your own story with a modern twist. The competition was open to schools right accross the UK and the school children submitted their story via the website and could see their work published online.

Post competition surveys showed a marked increase in copyright awareness in school age children across the UK.
